About HUG
Membership
The Heritage User Group has been in existence since 1988 and over the years our membership has grown to over 300 members.
Although the majority of members are from education, we also have many from health service and special libraries. Our committee structure reflects these specialisms, with a committee member representing each sector.
Activities
In 2002 our constitution was changed to allow members to apply for financial support to run events locally or set up regional sub-groups. This has increased the range of activities on offer as you can see from our events page. As well as local and regional events, we hold our AGM in December and a national conference in June.
Communication
As well as posting news and events on this site the group will continue to contact members via our Jiscmail : lis-heritage and the current committee can also be contacted via the committee pages.
Lis-heritage
Anyone who has given an email address in their membership details will be added to lis-heritage and automatically receive messages. To send a message simply put lis-heritage@jiscmail.ac.uk as the address and your message will go to all members of the list.
You don't have to do anything else to join, if you want to use the web interface and view the list archives at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/lis-heritage.html, you will need to register a listserv password which you can do from the jiscmail home page www.jiscmail.ac.uk
The owners of the list are the committee. Only list-owners can view the file store and add subscribers.

The resources on these pages will open in whichever application your computer associates with their file type (for example, Word for .doc files, Powerpoint for .ppt files, Adobe Acrobat for .pdf files). If you do not have an application which will run these files on your computer, free Word and Powerpoint Viewers can be downloaded from Microsoft's Downloads page.
Acrobat is available as a free download from Adobe's Website
If you are using assistive technology you may find it useful to use 'Access Adobe' to translate the .pdf files. This online service can be found at Access Adobe's Page.
If you do have the relevant applications installed on your computer, but they don't open automatically when you click on the links, try highlighting the link (right-clicking if you are using a mouse with windows) and selecting 'save as' or 'save target as'. Save the file to your computer and then open the file from within the relevant application.
